8 Person Tent is the right size tent for a family and a few friends. I know this as I have put this to the test. I had vowed I wasn’t interested in climbing over kids, luggage and bedding every time I needed something. Give me a tent that has plenty of room in it.

As a young couple pre children days we could get away with only a 3 person tent as a couple you don’t need much space at all as you want to be together all the time and climbing over each other is not a problem. These were the carefree times where we would drive for hours up the coast just looking for the perfect spot where we would pitch our tent. Everything was easy then all that was needed was to clear the ground of any debris, put down the ground sheet a few poles in and presto you were set. Meals were easy to a few rocks encircled a few bits of wood and you were frying sausages and beans in no time at all.

Of course you were also at the mercy of the weather as you only had space in the car to bring a few creature comforts and that was a couple of fold away chairs which fitted easily in the back of a car. On your holidays it is easy living with meals cooked on the open fire, with a few beers that were kept cold as you dangled them in the river while you waited for the snags to cook. The only hassle if it rained during meal times but what the heck the occasional packet of chips wouldn’t kill us and we had to be content with an early night to bed.

Those carefree days were short and sweet as babies came along one after the other and to keep the cost of holidays down it was decided to still continue camping, this time we purchased a 4 man tent which was suppose to give us more space. For those that have had kids I don’t have to tell you how much gear you need to pack for them alone. The car and the trailer were then packed with baby gear toddler’s bike and all of the other must haves to make the trip as successful as possible. The idea was that we would get to the camping ground and the baby would stay asleep in the car as the toddler rode his bike in eyes distance while we put up the tent. That was the plan, unfortunately the baby wasn’t sleeping when we got there, and the child on the bike fell off and skinned both knees and needed my attention.

Plan B was I looked after the kids and hubby attempted to put the tent up, by this stage it was night and tent pegs were still being hammered in under car light. Kids were tired, hungry and master 2 was throwing a temper tantrum. Finally we were unpacked but the 4 man tent didn’t have the room we thought we were going to get and it was a constant struggle with getting children to sleep, keeping the baby crying quiet so she didn’t wake the whole caravan park. After this particular camping trip which was memorable for all the wrong reasons it was decided to stay home for a few more holidays until the kids were a little older.

OK we counted the pennies out and went looking for an 8 person sized tent to me this would be my haven for the next 4 weeks and I had a checklist longer than your arm of the things that I wanted included in the tent. I was still emotionally scarred after the episode with taking young children camping and now that the kids were that much older it would be a breeze this time around. I was brave enough to take another 2 kids from the neighborhood that is how certain that we were all going to have a ball.

I wasn’t disappointed in the 8 person tent that we choose after all how could I go wrong the tent that came with built in wardrobes in each of the 4 rooms this gave me storage to keep the sleeping areas clutter free, I then had my very own separate kitchen that had room for the sink, pots and pans along with a space for a small table and chairs. I couldn’t believe my luck as everything on the checklist was checked off I even had a covered area off the main opening that was used like a lounge room.

Having kids that little bit older I think is the key to success in camping trips in a vango 8 man tents, and I know others will disagree but for me personally all it did was stress me and give me extra work that I had to contend with. The kids this last time were a dream when you see and compare our tent to what we had before. As they had their little playmates with them they played without squabbling all day, there was so much for them to do with beach, swimming in the pool, playroom it was literally a kid’s heaven. Perhaps next time when we need to get an updated tent we can look at either a 10 man tent or a 12 man tents when they appear in a tent sale would be the way to go since I have got used to more space perhaps we could invite another playmate along?  One thing I forgot to add you should really pack a first aid kit to cope with any bites you could receive when you camp outdoors.  IThe kids really had more space though and each night they turned in early as they were all exhausted by the day’s activities, this quiet time at night was reminiscent of times that we had years ago. Hubby cuddled up to me around the fire as we talked about our day in our 8 people tent counting heads at any one time I am sure there were more people than eight at any one time. We sipped on a cold beer that was chilled by the gas fridge rather than the river, “arrh this is the life I wonder what the poor people are doing”? He said.
